Alpacas tend to over-use the neck too much; therefore, headaches. In your case, I believe that your headaches are from physical trauma - work or sports injuries, motor vehicle accidents, aging, poor posture, etc.

Basically, the neck muscle problems.

Just like Koala has to sleep all day long to digest Eucalyptus, you may intake too much of bad chemicals into your body, eventually, causing headaches.

Dr. Ryan Song's Take

"I believe in the power of self-healing. I'd love to help you by providing all the knowledge, tools & equipment that you need. So, you can treat yourself!"

Alpacas are most likely...

  • You may already feel sick of over-the-counter (OTC) pain medications such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) and ibuprofen (Advil).

  • You don't know what triggers headaches specifically. You also have stiffness & tension that never go away.

  • You either wake up with sore neck or go to bed with sore neck.

  • You have tried multiple pillows and mattresses but always searching for something better.

  • You probably had several X-Rays, CT scans, and MRI. Doctors don't know why you have headaches. They recommend physiotherapy, acupuncture, massage or chiropractic treatments.

Common pain patterns...

You have the neck muscle problems. If we treat the right muscles, you will be free from neck pain and headaches, soon. Here is some background knowledge that you should know.

You are most likely to experience one of the following headache patterns. These are called a Trigger Point (TrP) - a hyperirritable spot, a palpable nodule in the taut bands. (shown as 'X' in the diagram)

The trigger points may feel especially painful when touched, and the pain may radiate beyond the immediate area. (shown as 'Red Dots' in the diagram)

Sub-occipitalis

Do you grind teeth at night? Or sloutching posture? Any whiplash injuries?

Trapezius Muscles

Do you have acute or chronic injuries? From work, sports, Motor vehicle accidents?

SCM Muscles #1

Do you stare at the screens for a long period of time? Or poor sitting posture at the desk?

SCM Muscles #2

Dizziness, a fever, or vomiting? you must see a doctor as it may develop into something serious.

Simple. You have pain in the particular muscles? You will have headaches just like red dots. Headaches worsen with activity of those muscles, usually worse in the afternoon (because your muscles become tired.)

So to treat it, you will have to reverse-engineer it. Massage the heck out of all the 'X'. Once the tension releases, you will experience less or no pain in the neck & headaches with the increase in range of motion.

Alpacas usually struggle with...

  • Simply put, the Alpaca's headaches are most likely from the nagging injury & poor posture (muscular problems) or aging (disc or spine problems). You may notice the headaches since a certain event:

    - MVA (motor vehicle accident)

    - Waking up with pain and decrease in range of motion in the neck

    - Work related injuries: computer, heavy-lifting etc

    - Pain from work: repetitive movements

    - Poor posture and muscle imbalance

    - Smartphones (tech neck)

    - Work from home (due to non-ergonomic work stations)

  • It's called "Tension Headache." This sounds scary, but it's the most common type of headache- pain or discomfort in the head, scalp, or neck, and is often associated with muscle tightness in these areas.

  • The Front: SCM muscles - staring at the screens for a long periods of time- poor sitting posture
